#1 What is Learning?
Learning is a scientific process which has evolved. It is sometimes voluntary and sometimes involuntary. Researchers say that learning brings about a change which is based on the theory of Behaviourism, which indicates learning as a result of a stimulus. When a person is provided with a stimulus, he or she reacts in a certain way, which could be positive or negative. by analysing those responses, one can create a dataset as a set of stimuli and respond in a particular way.
Behaviourist theory can be a concern if the outcome is abstract. Here, the basic human tendencies can be considered to associate a particular type of behaviour.
Behaviourism brings about two very important aspects of learning:
- Learning needs to be outcome-based
- Assessments should be individualised and purposeful.
This model works well with educators as they implement and challenge the learners with a complex process.
Educators keep few points in mind
- Learning objectives need to be communicated clearly
- As learners take baby steps towards their goal, they need to be guided and supported so that they are able to challenge themselves with more complex processes.
- Understanding the learning styles leads to creating a needs-based support and early intervention
- Support and guidance help the learners to reach the mastery level with a sense of achievement.
- Encourage active learning
- Allow the learners to have some control over their learning
- Build a connection between concepts and experiences wherever possible.
